Manager, Software Design for DSN (DSNM — Demand Supply Network Management)

General Purpose of the Role

The primary role of the Software Design for DSN Manager in the DSNM organization is to support Go-To-Market (GTM), Variant and Customization teams in the Markets organization during the definition and creation of Nokia's various software services and software applications. The primary task within this role is to drive the development of innovative software delivery solutions that support the required levels of customization, increase speed in delivery, and protect the quality and experience promise being made to Nokia's trade customers and consumers.

In addition to these activities collaboration with Meego, Symbian, and S30/S40 software architecture and delivery operations teams, as well as the variant creation and management teams inside DSNM will be required to ensure Nokia has the right software architecture, variant creation tools, and processes to launch new software applications and services fast and with the required quality.

Main Responsibility Areas / Key Tasks

  • Service and Solution delivery capability development during definition and creation phases
  • Drive the development of required DSN capabilities to increase speed and quality of Nokia's software assets (Focusing primarily on Nokia's bundled deliveries)
  • Support customization team during definition of new software assets for innovative ways to customize and increase speed in delivery capability.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders across Nokia's software asset teams on the importance in consideration of not only the consumer experience, but how we deliver that experience
  • Possible direct supervision of a small team to support development and implementation of specific Service and Solution delivery capabilities

Key Deliverables / output

  • DSN analysis to solution proposals according to user experience needs
  • Program and product support for fast solution prototyping and concepting capability
  • Guidance for DSNM based on solution prioritization
  • Contribution to DSN strategy development based on visibility of Consumer Experience needs and DSN capabilities


Key competences and experiences for success

  • Basics of mobile device software architectures (Meego, S60/Symbian, and S30/S40 preferred)
  • Understanding of software variant creation and customization processes
  • Understanding of the potential dependencies between different parts of a solution (incl. HW, SW and applications)
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network across Nokia's functions. e.g. R&D, Design, Sourcing, Operations, Care, Sales, and Marketing
  • Good understanding of Nokia's solution strategy and ability to drive ideas on how to make an impact with short term operative priorities within job scope (6-18 months)
  • Eager to find alternative solutions, challenge the status quo, act on opportunities, capable to balance innovation against any potential risks.
  • Strategic business understanding with capability for business modeling and case building
  • Ability to manage and lead a team if required
  • Ability to effectively create and drive own agenda with others in many different functions across Nokia and at different levels
