Senior SW Engineer, MeeGo UI HW Technologies-EMB0000001Y

Job Description

MeeGo Devices is where Nokia builds mobile computers on Linux. We build leading-edge devices by combining the most powerful hardware and the best open source software technologies. Our ambition is to deliver a superior user experience dedicated for mobile computers with large touch-screens that fit into your pocket. Using agile development methods and engaging with open source communities define our new way of working. Our latest product is the Nokia N900 — a high-performance mobile computer with powerful multitasking capabilities, fantastic web browser, and a rich media experience. Get to know everything about MeeGo at www.meego.com.

We are now looking for a Senior Software Engineer for the UI HW Technologies team. This cross disciplinary team is producing many of the hardware enablers required for creating the cutting edge user interaction experience in MeeGo products. As this team already has excellent competencies in electronics and mechanical design, user experience definition and system design, we're looking forward to strengthening our capabilities in SW domain as well.

Main responsibilities:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you are the key SW contributor in user interface hardware related projects. Your role depends on the size of the ongoing project — with smaller projects you are expected to deliver the necessary SW components while with larger projects it can be your task to plan and coordinate a larger set of deliverables. Typical projects revolve around sensor or touch and feedback solutions, where the challenge often is to combine existing technology enablers and develop them further to create something truly novel and unique.

With each project, your initial task is to identify the needed SW work and plan the deliverables. Often the very first SW deliverable is a quick hack on an existing system to make a proof-of-concept demonstrator (e.g. draft kernel driver, middleware hack and demo graphics running on Qt). From there onwards it's all about raising the stakes and making the solution happen. Naturally, your work is supported by the rest of the UI HW Technologies team, MeeGo SW assets, user experience specialists, product programs, and many other stakeholders.

You will be based in Tampere or Helsinki, Finland.

-Degree in Computer Sciences, or alike field

-Solid experience in C, C++ and object-oriented concepts

-Understanding of Linux architecture and ability to develop low-level drivers

Following skills and experience are seen as beneficial:

-Application / GUI development using Qt

-Experience with serial digital interfaces (e.g. I2C and SPI)

-SW integration of HW peripherals / components

-DSP programming (e.g. filtering, auto-calibration, data fusion)
