Senior Mechanical Engineer, MeeGo UI HW Technologies-MEC00000016

Job Description

MeeGo Computers is where Nokia builds mobile computers on Linux. We build leading-edge devices by combining the most powerful hardware and the best open source software technologies. Our ambition is to deliver a superior user experience dedicated for mobile computers with large touch-screens that fit into your pocket. Using agile development methods and engaging with open source communities define our new way of working. Our latest product is the Nokia N900 — a high-performance mobile computer with powerful multitasking capabilities, fantastic web browser, and a rich media experience. We are now looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the UI HW Technologies team. This cross disciplinary team is producing many of the hardware enablers required for creating the cutting edge user interaction experience in MeeGo products. UI HW Technologies team consists of HW, Mechanical and SW developers as well as user experience and system design specialists. Along with Display and Touch team, we are creating the missing links between the UX plans and the MeeGo products.

Main responsibilities:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you get to work on challenging user interface hardware solutions. Typical projects revolve around touch and feedback solutions, where the challenge is to combine existing technology enablers and develop them further to create something truly novel and unique. It is also our task to review existing integration methods (e.g. cameras, audio, batteries and sensors) and work on identified areas of improvement. Your main tasks is to contribute in mechanical design of these solutions. You will study the existing solutions, propose improvements or new solutions, and work hard to make them happen. There will be much exposure to and close collaboration with MeeGo product concepts and programs — typically our projects start a few months before product programs and are run in parallel as part of the product design team once the program starts.

You will be based in Tampere or Helsinki, Finland.
